Damning Statements - Must Read
June 16, 2005 in a statement by a jury in a Federal Lawsuit against University of Nevada, Reno:
“We are appalled and deeply disappointed that thru [sic] actions or inactions of management, administration and the University that this matter has come this far. It shows gross disregard for University policy, taxpayer’s money, and the court’s time.”
The severity of the problem was further documented in the University of Nevada, Reno Faculty Morale Study Report -August 2005:
“A large number of respondents cited a climate of intimidation, fear and powerlessness among university faculty and staff. Some described their work environment as hostile and expressed concern for a lack of the rule of law on campus. It is noteworthy that within an academic community that espouses the principles of academic freedom, so many respondents took extraordinary measures to preserve their anonymity, expressing fear of retaliation or even termination for expressing their viewpoints.”
