Corrupt Hiring Practices In Nevada Athletics?
Ok, we avoided this one even though we have known about it for awhile. However, too many people are up in arms about it and keep asking us to post this. Here is what sources revealed:
Cary Groth announced a new hire in the athletic department this past month at a staff meeting.
The new hire is a woman named Laura Scott. Her new position is academic advisor for athletics.
Laura Scott was most recently the director of fitness at Montreux Golf Course in Reno. She is also the former Head Tennis Coach at Northern Illinois University.
Scott resigned from NIU in 2004, days after Cary Groth accepted the athletic director position at Nevada.
Scott moved to Reno and owns a home with Groth. That makes them domestic partners.
This snap shot was sent to us from the Washoe County home assessor site.
We have yet to hear that Laura Scott has any academic advising experience. However, we are told that there were two very qualified candidates in the pool of applicants from the Pac-10 and the ACC that had academic advising experience in athletics.
Based on experience, Dr. Jean Perry would have overseen this search process. Dr. Perry is also working closely with Groth on the NCAA investigation as Perry oversees NCAA compliance at Nevada. And we know Cary Groth has covered up NCAA violations at Nevada.
Next time you seen Dr. Perry ask her if this was an honest search process done with the best interest of the student-athletes in mind?
