A Roll Call Of Liars In Nevada Athletics

This Reno Gazette Journal article is about basketball player Brandon Field's and an incident that got him suspended from the team in 2008.  From the article:

Coach Mark Fox was furious.
The players, all three of whom were cited for misdemeanor larceny, were suspended indefinitely. Fox dragged each one of them into his office to give his side of the story.

They all lied. There was no shoplifting, they said. It had to be a mistake. Pressed, Giles later admitted guilt. Fields, Fox was told, was innocent.  But he was guilty of lying, and so he sat.

"Fox knew I didn't do anything, but the stories we were telling didn't match up." "I was fibbing a little bit. That's why I was suspended.  I didn't steal, but I lied to him.  So, that was the punishment."

Let's take a roll call:

-- Athletic Director Cary Groth has lied, lied, and lied again and falsified evidence in her position.

-- Fox's wife,
Executive Associate Athletic Director Cindy Fox, lied and falsified evidence in her position.

-- Asst. to the President for Academics, Athletics, and Compliance Jean Perry has lied in her position.

-- Head Golf Coach Rich Merritt lied and cheated in his position.

Perhaps Brandon Fields was just following the lead of the "role models" at the University of Nevada, Reno.

Is Fox furious with his wife, Cindy, and former boss, Groth, for their lies?  Or does Fox look the other way since they lied to cover up his misconduct and to conceal NCAA violations in the basketball program?

It is sad that student-athletes are held to higher standards than that of the administration at UNR.
