A Criminal At The Helm Of Nevada Athletics, Cary Groth?
President Milton Glick said in Sunday's paper that a vibrant athletics program is vital to a university.
If Glick honestly believes this, why is he participating in the dismantling of Nevada's athletics program?
Since Glick was hired in 2006, he has renewed the contract of Athletic Director Cary Groth.
Under Groth's leadership we have witnessed the following:
- Groth is under investigation for her role in public corruption at UNR
- Nevada Athletics has been sanctioned by the NCAA and placed on probation
- First-ever budget deficit for Nevada Athletics (approximately $1 million) in 2009-2010
- Groth has personally been sued 3 times as Nevada Athletic Director
- Groth has been exposed for committing perjury, falsifying evidence, and concealing documents
Additionally, there has been a mass exodus of employees in the athletics department the past 3 years:
- 13 Head Coaches
- Executive Associate A.D.
- Associate A.D. for Marketing
- Director of Compliance
- Director of Academics
- Director of Sports Medicine
- Director of Strength and Conditioning
- Several other lower ranking employees that are key to student-athlete success
And, let us not forget . . . Groth's girlfriend (domestic partner), Laura Scott, was hired in the Nevada athletics department as an academic advisor, despite a lack of qualifications.
We won't even get started on the absence of NCAA appearances by Nevada teams in the past 3 years.
Next time you see President Glick, ask him if this is his idea of a vibrant athletics program.
