NSHE Official Sentenced To Prison

A high ranking Nevada System of Higher Education official was sentenced to prison last week.

Former College of Southern Nevada Associate Vice President Bob Gilbert was found guilty by a jury of 11 felony counts of theft.  A judge sentenced him to one to four years in prison.

Gilbert was also ordered to pay a $10,000 fine and about $6,300 in restitution to the college.

District Judge Donald Mosley said Gilbert acted with a "feeling of entitlement".

Three co-defendants who worked for Gilbert pled guilty days before trial.

This news is likely to cause great distress in the Nevada Athletic Department, especially among those subordinates of Athletic Director Cary Groth who have engaged in criminal activity to cover Groth's crimes.

As seen in this case, taking orders from a corrupt boss is not a defense.
