Greed, Stupidity Leads To Lengthy Prison Term

Following up on the Kansas Athletic Department scandal that sent several employees to prison....

Ben Kirtland, KU's associate athletic director for development and the last of 7 employees convicted in the scandal, was sentenced late last week to 57 months in prison.

He was sentenced for conspiracy to commit wire fraud, tax obstruction and transportation of stolen property across state lines.  He was also ordered to pay nearly $1.3 million in restitution.

“I’m sorry for my actions of greed and stupidity and recklessness,” Kirtland told U.S. District Court Judge Wesley Brown. “I will spend the rest of my life to atone for my actions.”
